Attention!
This page approximates a widely accepted standard that all editors should normally follow.
Labeled as a Guilty Gear Wiki policy or guideline, changes require consensus.

There are many templates in use in Guilty Gear Wiki; these are only a subset, representing some of the most important and commonly used ones. If you feel that a template belongs on this page, do not hesitate to add it.

  • Category:Templates should cover all templates in the wiki, categorized into the various subcategories.
  • The Template namespace always has all templates in the wiki, sorted alphanumerically.

What are templates?[]

Wiki templates provide a means to insert the same content over and over in different (or the same) pages. This saves editors the hassle of duplicating the same text again and again, and also helps ensure consistency.

Template pages generally show the format required to use the template, through their {{documentation}}, along with what it looks like and how it is used. {{t|<template>}} allows to show example template code (with a link to its template) without using the template itself; it is used extensively on this page.

Notice templates[]

Notice templates help article management or maintenance, so that all editors can check what needs to be done to improve our articles. Those marked "top" in the Type column go before the infobox, opening quote, and introduction; those marked "body" go in the article's body, after the introduction.

Template Type Usage
{{delete}} Top (mbox) To nominate an article or file for deletion; adds Category:Candidates for deletion.
{{cleanup}} To signal an article is not up to standards; adds Category:Articles in need of cleanup.
{{expand}} To request an article's expansion; adds Category:Articles in need of expansion.
{{images}} To request images or videos; adds Category:Articles in need of images.
{{translation}} An unofficial translation disclaimer; adds Category:Articles with unofficial translations.
{{disambig}} -- For disambiguation pages (topic names with 3+ uses); adds Category:Disambiguations.
{{stub}} Body For articles with little or no useful information; adds Category:Article stubs.
{{youmay}} Top (hatnote) A hatnote linking to a similarly-named article or disambiguation page.
{{redirect}} A hatnote for a redirect when there are similar similarly-named articles.

Article templates[]

Infobox templates, which serve as fact sheets, and navbox templates, which facilitate wiki navigation, must appear at the article's beginning and at the bottom, respectively. Only one infobox and one navbox are allowed per article.

Article Type Usage

Citation templates[]

Citation templates are required in most, if not all, articles on this wiki as per our verifiability policy. They mainly come into two types: citations (the most common, and required to be enclosed within <ref> tags), and annotations. They may be anywhere on an article's body, but must always be accompanied by their respective list template at the bottom, right before the navbox.

Template Type Usage
{{source}} Body To indicate a statement needs a source; adds "Category:Articles in need of citation".
{{note}} Body To add context to a claim; requires "Notes" (an additional section) and {{notelist}}.
{{script}} Body (refs) To link to a specific game script; requires "References" section and {{reflist}}.
{{manual}} To link to a specific game manual; requires as above.
{{lore}} To link to a specific in-game encyclopedia entry; requires as above.
{{chapter}} To link to a specific novel or manga chapter article; requires as above.
{{quotes}} To link to a specific character quote; requires as above.
{{dust}} To link to a specific Dustloop Wiki article; requires as above.
{{twitter}} To link to a specific official twitter post; requires as above.
{{notelist}} Bottom Collects {{note}} annotations into a list; should always be divided in two columns.
{{reflist}} Collects <ref> citations into a list; should always be divided in two columns.

General wiki templates[]

General wiki templates are commonly used for the standardization of formatting of certain elements within an article.

Template Type Usage
{{clr}} -- Should generally be avoided; clears space below things. Alternatives are {{clrl}} and {{clrr}}.
{{quote}} Top To add an opening article quote.
{{main}} -- To link to a 'main' article at the start of a section. Alternative is {{see}}, at a section's end.
{{c}} To add a comment in a list, a table, or an infobox. (Like this.)
{{list}} To format ol (#) and ul (*) lists, and define them into multiple columns.
{{j}} Displays Japanese characters, rōmaji, and literal meaning. Alternatives are {{jt}} and {{jl}}.
{{foot}} To add a tooltip that displays text when hovered over.*(Like this.) Mainly used in tables.
{{key}} Formats "notes" for the clarification of contents, e.g. symbols, in a list or table.
{{button}} Displays command button images. Like this: DownDown RightRight + Kick.
{{frames}} To show startup / active / recovery frames on a table.

Other templates[]

The aforementioned are all for general use in articles. However, we have a few additional categories. License templates are used to licensing images when uploading them. (For more information, see our file policy.) Then, there are portal templates, which are exclusively used on our main page. And finally, all of our documentation for the templates mentioned in this page, and many more.
